The assimilation of methanol, ethanol, n-propanol and n-butanol by Nocardia, Rhodococcus and Brevibacterium strains was studied. R. erythropolis, R. rubropertinctus, R. rhodochrous and R. aquosus assimilated ethanol better than n-propanol or n-butanol; methanol was not assimilated by these species. R. aquosus was the least active species in alcohol assimilation. No Brevibacterium strains assimilated alcohols.
