15 pony mares, ovariectomised during the previous summer, were randomly assigned to seasonal (winter, spring and summer) treatment groups (5 females /group). At the designated season, the animals were killed, and hypothalamic areas were collected and assayed for GnRH activity. While the total hypothalamic GnRH concentration did not differ significantly among seasons, there was a trend towards increased concentrations in the summer. Also, the distribution of GnRH activity within the hypothalamus differed among seasons (P<0.05).
