Norepinephrine therapy in patients allergic to or intolerant of epinephrine

Topical application of 2% norepinephrine produced a mean reduction in intraocular pressure of 20% in a group of patients with ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. In 15 patients who were allergic to or intolerant or epinephrine preparations, 10 patients were able to tolerate norepinephrine. Norepinephrine may be a possible alternative mode of therapy in patients who cannot tolerate or who are allergic to epinephrine therapy.
