The effect of acenocoumarol [ACC] on the course of Masugi nephritis was studied in rabbits. Masugi nephritis was induced in 60 selected and pair matched rabbits: 1 animal of each pair was treated with ACC, the 2nd served as control. Serum and urinary fibrinogen degradation products, serum creatinine and urea, prothrombin time, proteinuria were determined and urine sediment evaluated in each animal. The animals were killed on day 10, 14, 21, and 35 and the kidneys were studied histologically and by immunofluorescence. In the 2nd half of the experiment the intensity of glomerulonephritis was lower in the ACC-treated group. ACC in doses 0.2-3.2 mg/kg did not influence the level of fibrinogen degradation products in blood and urine or its correlation with the intensity of proteinuria.
