Thirty pigs with a mean body weight of 22.8 kg were used in tests of the effects of 0.08 mg/kg atropine injected i/m alone or in sequential or simultaneous combination with 40 mg azaperone i/m per animal, in each case followed after 16 minutes by i/v injection of 18 mg/kg pentobarbital. The simultaneous method produced pulmonary and haemodynamic readings in the middle of the range of values produced by the other methods during a subsequent 90-minute anaesthesia with methoxyfluorane and nitrous oxide. I/v infusion for 4 or 10 minutes with 50 mu g epinephrine and 50 mu g norepinephrine per minute after the main test did not produce atrial fibrillation or an epinephrine reversal effect.
