Comparative insecticidal activity of synthetic pyrethroids

The insecticidal activity of decamethrine, sumithrine, sumicidine, pinamine-d-forte, bioallethrine, bioresmethrine and allethrine for house flies, bed bugs, common cockroach and imagoes of Aedes mosquitoes was studied in the laboratory. Topical application of alcohol solutions of the insecticides and insect contacts with treated glass plates, showed that the highest insecticidal properties were with decamethrine and sumithrine. Sumicidine was also effective against house flies and bed bugs. Pinamine-d-forte in the aerosol form was very effective against house flies. By the value of the coefficient of selective toxicity all the synthetic pyrethroids under study were markedly superior to chlorophos, BHC, gamma-isomer, DDVP, DDT. Trials under semiproductional conditions of insecticide spirals containing 0.6% allethrine showed good prospects of their use for the eradication of mosquitoes in small premises (up to 30 m2). These spirals may be recommended for large-scale practical trials.
