Toxoplasma uveitis without retinochoroiditis?

The correspondents consider that the recent reporting of a case of presumptive anterior uveitis without apparent retinochoroiditis in acquired toxoplasmosis [see Pz 4, 1349] raises several questions of diagnosis. Firstly, the anterior chamber reaction described appears more severe than that usually seen in toxoplasmosis, suggesting endophthalmitis rather than a simple anterior uveitis. Secondly, there is a lack of a complete description of the uveitis and, thirdly, the duration of the severe anterior reaction exceeds the duration of both systemic findings and elevated serological titres. It is thought more likely that the ocular signs were due to an untreated retinochoroidal focus rather than to toxoplasmosis.
