Clindamycin is purported to be active against encysted Toxoplasma and may be effective in preventing recurrences of toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis that previous antimicrobials used against this organism have not prevented. A photographically documented case report of a recurrence of juxtamacular toxoplasmic retinochoroditis 17 mo. after 4 wk of therapy with systemic clindamycin, sulfadiazine and pyrimethamine is presented. This case emphasizes the need for controlled clinical trials to establish the place of clindamycin, which is potentially toxic, in the therapy for ocular toxoplasmosis.
