Determination of the salvin concentration in therapeutic solutions by using UV spectra

The absorption spectra of the anti-microbial preparation salvin were studied in the UV-region. The preparation was obtained from Salvia officinalis leaves and is applied for treating various diseases of the oral cavity. Maximal absorption of salvin alcohol solutions of different concentrations is determined to be within 285 nm. The value of optic density in the region of maximal absorption in the studied series of the preparation varies slightly and does not depend on variations of the bacteriostatic titer. A spectrophotometric method is developed to determine the concentration of salvin in its alcohol, alcohol-aqueous and alcohol-salt solutions used in medical practice.
