Adriamycin-cyclophosphamide treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix

Ten consecutive patients with biopsy-proven recurrent (i.e., postradiation therapy of curative intent) and/or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix were studied. There was only 1 partial responder. She experienced a 75+% reduction in the size of her pelvic mass for 12 mo. She developed reversible congestive heart failure at a total dose of only 217 mg/m2 of adriamycin, causing the discontinuation of this drug. One other patient had a 25% reduction in the size of her pulmonary metastases which lasted 3 mo. The adriamycin-cyclophosphamide combination apparently has no important role in the treatment of this disease.
