Patients were positive. ANA were also detected in the pleural fluids or in the urine of patients with gross renal damage. Anti-DNA antibodies were detected in 8 of 20 patients of SLE; most of them had renal involvement. The test was also positive in 53% patients of scleroderma and 31% of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The incidence in liver disease, thyroid diseases and psoriasis was less than 3%. In multiple myeloma and controls the incidence was 1-2%.
