Calves were grazed from November 22nd 1976 to January 11th 1977 on pasture heavily contaminated with infective larvae of Ostertagia ostertagi and Cooperia oncophora and were then divided into 3 groups which were treated orally with oxfendazole at 0, 2.5 or 5.0 mg/kg body-weight. Postmortem examination showed that control (untreated) calves had averages of 3,200 adult and 10,433 arrested 4th-stage O. ostertagi and 3,416 adult and 3,983 arrested 4th-stage C. oncophora. The reductions in worm burden in the treated groups were 100 and 85.8% (low dose) and 100 and 90.7% (high dose), respectively for O. ostertagi while adult and arrested C. oncophora were totally removed at both dose levels.
