In 17 of 31 cases of pulmonary amoebiasis without evidence of hepatic involvement, trophozoites of Entamoeba histolytica were demonstrated in the sputa. Sigmoidoscopy revealed ulcers in the colon and in 23 cases E. histolytica trophozoites or cysts were found in the faeces. Radiological findings are reported. The lesions did not respond to antibiotics. 15 patients were given dehydroemetine at 60 mg daily for 9 to 12 days followed by chloroquine at 500 mg daily in divided doses for 2 weeks. The response was good in 4, fair in 6 and poor in 5 (4 of whom died). The other 16 patients were given 3 tablets of Antibic Forte (each tablet containing 200 mg metronidazole and 250 mg diiodohydroxyquinoline) 3 times daily for 2 weeks. The response was good in 13 and fair in 3.
