Model infarction in rats was induced by ligation of the left coronary artery. The degree of myocardial damage during infarction was evaluated according to dynamics of ECG indices. The development of ischemia and myocardial infarction in the initial period was characterized by increased free radical lipid oxidation. A direct relationship was established between the intensity of free radical lipid oxidation and the degree of myocardial damage under experimental conditions. Injections of sodium selenite in combination with vitamin E and .alpha.-tocopherol decreased the intensity of free radical lipid oxidation in the myocardium, prevented ECG changes and decreased the extent of myocardial damage.
