In this further part of a series on the effect of insecticides on Blattidae [see RAE/B 61, 1377, etc.; 66, 811], the residual action of gamma -BHC (lindane) and trichlorphon against Blattella germanica (L.) was tested in the laboratory at Bucharest in Romania [see 61, 2262], by means of the tarsal contact method recommended by WHO. Glass containers were sprayed with these compounds at 500 and 1000 mg/m2, respectively, and the cockroaches were placed in contact with the residual film 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days later for periods of 1-24 h. The results showed that gamma -BHC, which remained effective for up to 90 days after application and killed the insects after contact for 5 h, was more persistent than trichlorphon, which remained effective for 60 days and killed the insects after 24 h.
