Depressive and disinhibitory effects of traizolam following brief continous administration

The effects of the drug triazolam on the behavior of rats trained to operate a lever which avoids the infliction of a punishing action were observed. The drug, administered at 1 mg/kg body wt, 1 h after treatment increases the number of responses in pressing the lever. The effects are less intense and nonsignificant when the drug is readministered 3 days later. Single administration selectively affects time discrimination. Repetition of the drug, especially when the interval between administrations is reduced, affects the number of responses and discriminating performance. Single administration masks the disinhibitory actions but continuous treatment attenuates the depressant effect leaving the disinhibitory effects to be manifested.
