Effect of aspirin and indomethacin on changes caused by Pateurella multocida toxins in calves

Acetylsalicyclic acid acid (50 mg/kg die) and indomethacin (1.5 mg/kg die) were administered to calves three days prior to intravenous application of endotoxin. Such treatment resulted in delayed occurence of clinical symptoms and higher survival rates, as compared to untreated controls. Parameters relating to coagulation physiology, changed by endotoxin, were not controllable with statistical security by administration of acetylsalicyclic acid indomethacin.
