A fungitoxic principle from the leaves of lawsonia inermis lam

During antifungal screening of higher plants L. inermis leaves exhibited strong fungitoxicity. The antifungal factor was 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (lawsone). The min. effective dose against the test fungus Helminthosporium oryzae [Cochliobolus miyabeanus] was 1000 ppm. Lawsone (tested against 17 other fungi) is fungicidal, with a wide fungitoxic spectrum, and is nonphytotoxic.
