A sexual counselling center for teenagers was opened in a town in Sweden. A midwife trained in contraceptive methods, a physician, and a psychologist give medical and psychological counselling in the areas of contraception, venereal disease, unwanted pregnancy, and other aspects of sexuality. One night a week teenagers can visit the center without an appointment. It is important that personnel be chosen with whom the teenagers can feel comfortable discussing sexual problems. It was difficult to introduce teenage boys to the center, but this was resolved after they came as a group and became familiar with the center's functions. The counselling is free and located centrally. Some main objectives of the center are the combatting of venereal disease and helping teenagers to become more self-confident and to realize that sex is to be seen as a normal aspect of human life.
