Segregated inseminated females of S. heathi contain spermatozoa in their uterus and tubo-uterine junction during the period from the 2nd wk of Nov. to the last wk of Dec. The stored spermatozoa fertilize the ova released during the last wk of Dec. Since the tropical bats do not undergo true hibernation, the higher body temperature does not affect the viability of the spermatozoa. The prolonged survival of the inseminated spermatozoa in the tropical bats is possibly related to the composition of the medium in uterus and is hormonally controlled.
