Genetic and biochemical proof of the presence in streptomycetes of plasmids which determine fertility and synthesis and resistance to antibiotics was discussed. Preliminary data on streptomycete transposons were presented. Streptomyces scabies, S. venezuelae, S. hygroscopicus, S. albo-niger, S. coelicolor, S. rimosus, S. bikiniensis, S. olivaceus, S. glaucescens, S. achromogenes, S. lividus and S. acrimycini were included in the review. Cloning of plasmids in Escherichia coli for use as transformation vectors in streptomycetes was mentioned.
