Zinc concentration in the plasma and stomachs of rats with gastric ulceration

Rats weighing 125 to 160 g in groups of 10 were controls fed normally or deprived of food for 24 h and untreated. The other groups were deprived of food for 24 h and given histamine hydrochloride 250 or phenylbutazone 150 mg/kg bodyweight and killed 8 h later or indomethacin 40 mg/kg and killed 4 h later. The last group were restrained and kept at 4 deg C for 2 h before they were killed. There was no significant difference among the groups in zinc in plasma but all the rats in every experimental group had stomach ulcers whereas no rat in either control group had ulcers.
