Examination of farmsteads in 60 villages of 6 districts and 4 towns of Fergana Valley [USSR] established infestation with Argasid ticks in 43 villages, of which 13 (30.2%) arose in 1947-1966 in uninhabited terrtitories and were considered to be free from tick vectors. Residents of closely located villages, previously known typical foci of the disease, probably took part in the formation of these latter potential foci of tick-borne spirochetosis. Introduction of ticks could occur in the process of economic activity of man. Formation of new anthropurgic foci of tick-borne spirochetosis in newly arising villages and settlements may be dangerous for the population, therefore the problem of enhanced control of vectors becomes urgent.
