Experiments on the survival of bacteria in nightsoil digestion tanks showed that Escherichia coli and total bacteria in the effluent decreased 99.73% and 86.84% compared with that in the inlet pipe. In the environment simulating digestion tanks, Shigella flexneri 3a survived 9-13 days, while in the control flasks the bacilli survived 11-15 days. The settlement of parasite ova to the bottom of the digestion tank was marked, because 98.32% of the eggs settled and only 1.68% (including dead eggs) was found in the fecal matter of the effluent. Ammonia concentration in fermented fecal matter increased by 32.95% and manure fertility was marked.
