Five marine pilots on active service were studied on 3 separate occasions. The investigation covered the extent of strain experienced in the execution of their duties and the excretion of catecholamines in urine before and immediately after a piloting engagement and in the following rest period. Excretion of catecholamines during pilotage, a stress occupation, showed an increase from both the control periods although the increase was not significant when creatinine excretion was used as correction factor.
