Immunization of cattle against Theileria parva (inoculation of susceptible cattle with macroschizont-infected lymphoid cells harvested from animals dying of east coast fever, concurrent infection of cattle and treatment with tetracycline drugs and the "quantum of infection hypothesis") is briefly reviewed. Attempts to vaccinate cattle, duration of immunity, cross-immunity and results of field trials are discussed.
