The technique of free tissue transplantation with microvascular anastomoses in 3 patients is presented. Transplants consisting of skin and subcutaneous tissue from the groin with the superficial circumflex iliac artery and the superficial epigastric artery were used to cover defects over the calcaneum and to treat a scalping wound of the head, and a transplant from the dorsum of the foot with the A. dorsalis pedis and accompanying sensory nerves to the palmar surface of a hand following a third degree burn. Eight of a total of 13 transplants with microvascular connections healed completely. Partial necrosis occurred three times and total necrosis twice.
