By means of an evaluation of 68 recontrols of open oral vestibule plastic operations with and without application of bandage, accomplished on account of periodontologic causes, some disadvantages of the leaving behind of free wound areas are pointed out. The covering of these areas with rehydrated lyophilized swine's split skin (xenoderm) by means of single button sutures possesses some advantages opposite to the usual bandages, accelerates the healing and seems to decrease the scarred shrinkage. Because the operating time is not prolongated essentially by the attaching of xenoderm the procedure can be recommended in the routine practice for extended wound areas and for patients with whom a delayed healing is to be expected.
