Dynamics of immunomorphologic responses in white mice with experimental cutaneous leishmaniasis

An experimental model of cutaneous leishmaniasis [Leishmania tropica major] in white mice was used to study immunomorphological changes in the hosts during the disease. Of 91 mice used, 23 were sacrificed early in the disease, 50 at the height of the disease and 18 during the remission of leishmanial infection. The animals were obseved for 10 mo. Histopathological and histochemical studies were performed on the materials from the focus of lesion on the skin, lymph nodes, spleen and liver. In these organs a peculiar immunomorphological reaction was found which increased as the disease progressed. Both cellular and humoral immunity developed in cutaneous leishmaniasis.
