Purification and properties of an adipose tissue triglyceride lipase

This report is concerned with the isolation and characterization of a new triglyceride lipase from pig adipose tissue. Three distinct lipase assays are employed: one is an assay newly developed and the other 2 are assays for hormone-sensitive lipase and lipoprotein lipase. The 3 lipases measurable by these procedures are found to be separable upon chromatography and distinguishable from each other in their enzymatic properties. Adipose tissues obtained during extra-summer seasons contain large quantities of triglyceride lipase and small quantities of hormone-sensitive lipase, while the tissues obtained in the summer contain large quantities of hormone-sensitive lipase but the level of triglyceride lipase is low. A possible physiological role and seasonal variation of this triglyceride lipase are discussed.
