Serum cholesterol and triglycerides in relation to ponderal index and age in two contrasting populations

Serum from 176 mentally retarded and 439 normal subjects on average 39.7 and 45.3 years old had on average cholesterol 189.6 and 237.5 and triglyceride 77.8 and 123.9 mg/100 ml. The values were significantly and negatively correlated with the ponderal index, height/weight 1/3, of normal men. For all women the cholesterol content was significantly and positively correlated with the triglyceride content and with age.
