The internal structure of the iliohypogastric nerve of 60 corpses was studied on both sides. The number and surface area of cross sections of fascicles, the number and thickness of myelin fibers and the index of density of fibers were observed. The number of nerve fascicles varied from 1-14 and the average was 2.1. No variations connected with age of the bodies were observed. The surface area of cross sections of fascicles of the iliohypogastric nerve varied from 34,249 to 1,934,469 .mu.2 and average was 542,776 .mu.2. It increased during the postfetal life of man, most intensely up to the age of 14 yr. The number of myelin fibers of the nerve varied from 384 to 11,810, with the average being 5167. The results do not show changes in the number of myelin fibers of the iliohypogastric nerve in the course of the postfetal life of man. The thickness of myelin fibers increased in postfetal life, most intensely up to the age of 14 yr. The index of density of fibers of nerve varied from 0.60 to 2.92 and the average was 0.95. It decreased during postfetal life, most intensely up to the age of 14 yr.
