Monoactive electrosurgery is the most used in laparoscopy. This procedure contains some risks but they may be easily avoided with a good equipment and if the elements of the electric circuit are constantly checked; one has to be aware of the current's travel in the tissues, so as to avoid high electrical densities in the wrong places. The use of a generator isolated from the ground, with floating circuit, with or without bi-active coagulation pliers, adds an important element of security. This will allow electrosurgery to remain an efficient and safe tool in endoscopic surgery. Among the newer methods being investigated is Semm's thermocoagulation. The advantage of this procedure is the absence of electrical risk since the voltages used are very low. The disadvantage is that the coagulations take a longer time and the pliers must be cooled back down to 37 degrees. The coagulated tissues may stick to the metal of the pliers, although this is avoided by using the adequate temperature.
