The application of type 3 and type 7 adenovirus rabbit hyperimmune serum globulin and horse mixed immune serum globulin labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate in examination for adenovirus antigen in exfoliated pharyngeal cells from infants with clinical diagnosis of virus pneumonia showed a high positive rate. In infants diagnosed clinically as pneumonia of other etiologic agents, negative results were obtained in most cases. Some infants with other diseases all had negative results. Labeled adenovirus immune serum globulin did not react with measles, influenza or parainfluenza viruses. The inhibition test demonstrated that fluorescence emission was specific. Comparison between adenovirus isolation and adenovirus antibody assay in paired sera showed good agreement in most cases.
