A review is given of studies of the bioavailability of commercial peroral drugs in respect to their therapeutic effectiveness. Factors affecting the absorption of drugs include their chemical properties, the number of particles and their surfaces, the number and form of crystals, the charge of particle surfaces and other physico-chemical characteristics. Results of tests with human volunteers and laboratory animals administered aminosalicylic acid, tetracycline, ampicillin, chloramphenicol, penicillin, erythromycin, phenoxymethylpenicillin, oxytetracycline and other antibiotics in various forms and compounds are discussed.
