The Lombardy Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology: oral ballot on the problem of abortion

The Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Lombardy met on March 4, 1976 to scrutinize the results of a poll conducted among its members on the problem of abortion. The majority of votes (45.83%) went to motion 1. This motion, considering that the product of conception reaches its biological completeness with implantation in the uterus, determined that any interruption of pregnancy concides with the suppression of a human life. Abortion is to be performed only when the physical and emotional health of the mother is in danger, or when there are clear risks of fetal abnormalities. The same motion sponsored the widespread use of contraception. Motion 2, for free abortion on reques t, obtained 4.17% of the votes.
