Mosquito iridescent virus was isolated from 11 species of mosquitoes (Aedes cantans (Mg.), A. dorsalis (Mg.) (caspius dorsalis), A. caspius caspius (Pall.), A. vexans (Mg.), A. flavescens (Mull.), A. cataphylla Dyar, A. excrucians (Wlk.), Culiseta annulata (Schr.), C. morsitans (Theo.), Culex territans Wlk. and Mochlonyx velutinus (Ruthe) (culiciformis (Deg.)) collected from natural bodies of water in different parts of the Ukraine and Karelia (USSR). The morphology of the virions was studied by electron microscopy, and the diameters of those isolated from the larvae collected are listed. Problems of nomenclature of the viruses isolated are discussed.
