When studying peculiarities of N metabolism in rats with high- and low-resistant to hypoxia (HRH and LRH, respectively) it was found that the presence of animals in the altitude chamber for 2 h at 9000 m activates NAD-dependent glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) of the brain and liver and increases the level of blood urea. More active NAD-dependent brain GDH and a lower level of blood urea are peculiar to the HRH individuals. Changes due to hypoxia are similar for both groups (HRH and LRH) but the degree of change differs.
