Effect of near-ultraviolet radiation on growth and respiration of Bacillus cereus T

In B. cereus T near-UV radiation was highly effective in inducing growth delay. The sensitivity of the cells to near-UV radiation varies with the age of culture. The maximum sensitivity coincides with the minimum pH, which is obtained at 3.5 h. Once the pH starts rising, the cells become resistant to near-UV radiation, and at .apprx. 5 h near-UV radiation has no effect. Respiration was not affected by near-UV radiation. Menaquinone is probably not the target molecule for the action of near-UV radiation.
