Staphylococci were isolated from sea water used for sanitation purposes in the littoral zone of the NW Black Sea. Of 66 isolated cultures, 44 belong to the pathogenic, coagulase positive staphylococci. Twenty cultures are typed by the international set of staphylococcal phages, and most of them belong to phage groups I + III and I. The antibiotic sensitivity of 35 coagulase positive staphylococci was determined, and 22 of them were resistant to tetracycline (62.9% of cultures and highly sensitive to monomycin and neomycin.
