Use of the live hog cholera vaccine Suiferin C in breeding stock. 1. Effects on reproduction

The fertility pattern in a pig breeding herd after vaccination with swine fever vaccine "Suiferin C" (China strain) was recorded and analysed. The results showed: numbers of liveborn piglets fluctuated within the range of four unvaccinated control herds; perinatal mortality up to three days post partum was 9.2% before and after vaccination; the percentage of stillborn piglets was 7.4% before and 7.2% after vaccination; no abortions were observed; no pathological lesions of the type described in the literature after the use of vaccines with residual pathogenicity were encountered. On the basis of these results, which are in agreement with other published findings, "Suiferin C" (China strain) can be recommended for use in pig-breeding establishments.
