Schistosomiasis and carcinoma of the bladder in Zambia

Of 217 cases of carcinoma of the bladder seen in Zambia from 1968 to 1972, 141 (65%) had concomitant schistosomiasis. These tumours tended to occur in a younger age group than reported from countries where schistosomiasis is not endemic. The aetiological role of schistosomiasis in bladder cancer is discussed.
