Sheaths and mesotendons of the tendons of the extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis muscles and of the tendon of the extensor pollicis longus muscle

Sixty-four formalinized upper extremities from human cadavers of both sexes were examined by dissection. Upon opening the sheath of the tendon of the extensor pollicis longus muscle, an orifice was found in the bottom of the sheath, connecting it with the lower lying sheath of the tendons of the extensor carpi muscles. The sheaths of the extensor carpi muscles were divided by a mesotendon into a left and right part. The proper mesotendons to the various tendons arise from this common mesotendon. In all tendons examined, the mesotendons had windows which divided them into a proximal and a distal part.
