The structure of the sheaths and vascularization of the tendons in the foot has not been described in detailed as opposed to the tendons in the hand. The author examined the structure and vascularization of the tendons of EHL and EDL in 150 legs by infiltration of the arteries with China ink and "Polimal 101" resin and subsequent dissection. The tendons examined showed to have separate synovial sheaths at the level of the lower retinaculum. The structure of the sheaths is a complex one. The arterial vascularization comes to the examined tendons from the vessels of the muscle belly, peri-tendineal connective tissue, from the mesentery and from the periosteal insertion. Delicate anastomoses were found between the above mentioned sources of vascularization.
