Shunting of mixed venous blood into the arterial bed in the early stages of ontogeny under conditions of acute hypoxic hypoxia

Under normal conditions the value of venous admixture was the same in adult dogs and 1.5-2.5 mo. old pups but it was slightly higher in the 2-3 wk-old pups. After mild hypoxia (14.5% O2) venous admixture (as a part of cardiac output) was practically unchanged in the 2-3 wk-old pups but it increased insignificantly in the 1.5-2.5 mo. old pups and increased somewhat in adult dogs. After more severe hypoxia (11.2% O2), venous admixture is slightly increased in the 2-3 wk old pups, more noticeaby in the 1.5-2.5 mo. old pups and grew considerably in adult dogs. These data indicate age peculiarities in shunting of mixed venous blood into arterial bed in acute hypoxic hypoxia.
