Urogenital trichomoniasis in women

127 women suffering from acute (12) and chronic (115) trichomoniasis were observed; 87 were between 20 and 40 years of age. The duration of illness was from one month to 13 years. A change in the clinical picture to "formes frustes" was observed. Culture was more successful in detecting infection foci than the examination of a fresh, untreated specimen. Multiplicity of the foci of infection was shown in 92.1% of cases. 4 foci (ureter, vagina, cervical canal and uterine cavity) of infection were found in 8.6%, 3 foci (ureter, vagina and cervical canal) in 58.3%, 2 foci (ureter and vagina) in 25.1%, and a single focus (vagina only) in 7.9% of the 127 women. Trichomonas infection is thus multifocal. Infertility was revealed for 11.02% of the women, 6 on the first occasion and 8 on the second occasion. After treatment 10 of the women became pregnant after 3 to 8 months; 6 of them gave birth; 4 aborted: 2 of them became pregnant twice, but the pregnancies were twice terminated. 14 of the women were infertile (6 never fertile, 8 after one or more pregnancies).
