Mice (C57Bl) were injected intraperitoneally with 40 Trypanosoma brucei or 20 trophozoites of Toxoplasma gondii. Most of the cells of the peritoneal effusion collected 2 days later had only a normal number (40) of chromosomes. This was in contrast to mice or rats inoculated with viruses producing ascitic tumours, in which many of the peritoneal cells had 44 or 80 chromosomes.
