The influences of androgen on endometrial monoamine oxidase [MAO] activity was examined histochemically using s.c. injections of testosterone propionate in normal and castrated rats. Moderate MAO activity was seen in the endometrium of the castrated rats, while almost none to weak MAO activity was localized in that of normal and castrated rats following testosterone treatment. Testosterone might inhibit endometrial MAO activity of rats, but the mechanisms are still unknown. Testosterone may inhibit directly MAO activity or affect, as estrogen, after conversion.
