Anterior infarction in acute phase correlating the upward unbalance of the ST tract in mm with the index of clinical seriousness was examined in 40 cases. During the course of the disease 17 patients presented pericarditis; 8 of them died. In subjects without pericarditis there was a good correlation between the decrease in the ST unbalance and the index of seriousness. The loss of significance of such correlation, generally observed on the 3rd day, must be attributed to the rather marked decrease in the unbalance of the ST tract compared with the index of seriousness. The subjects suffering from pericarditis presented a longer lasting upward unbalance of the ST tract which tended to normalize on the 20th day. The deceased presented a persistent unbalance of the ST of greater entity compared with the other 2 groups.
