Changes of serum lipid composition in patients with multiple sclerosis

Disturbances of lipid metabolism are characteristic in the brain tissue of patients with multiple sclerosis. The patients 22 to 55 years old with multiple sclerosis were a group of 17 with remissions and exacerbations in the course of the disease and 16 with slowly progressive disease. Patients had hyperlipidaemia with increased phospholipids, neutral glycerides, cholesterol and beta -lipoproteins. The values were significantly higher in the slowly progressive form than in the form with remissions and exacerbations.
